Please note that 'Bawo ni' in Yoruba as a form of greeting is relative. Youths use the term to greet friends and peers and should not be used to greet someone older than you or elders in general. It can cause offence if a young person greet an elderly person with the term 'Bawo Ni'. To greet someone older than you, use period of the day e.g:
Ẹ k' aarọ
- Good Morning
(between 6.00 am - 10.00am)
Ẹ ku iyaleta
- Greeting between morning and noon - (10:am - 12 noon)
E k' asan
- Good Afternoon
(12 noon - 1.00pm)
Ẹ k' alẹ
- Good evening
