IMLD

Our Yearly Events

IMLD is International Mother Language Day celebrated yearly in conjunction with UNESCO on 21ST February. A day set aside by UNESCO for everyone to speak their languages. This year, YAF will be celebrating the event by launching its long awaited book, written and published by Yoruba Awareness Foundation; Yoruba Book of proverbs (Iwe Owe Yoruba) to specially commemorate the week long activities. The theme for this year will be sent by UNESCO closer to the date, which will then form the topic of discussion for the celebration. The weeks event will start on Tuesday 21st February, which is IMLD day itself. On 21st February, YAF will be making a radio and TV appearance to promote the need to encourage the speaking of mother tongue as well as our other activities.
The culmination of events for the week will be the formal launch of the book, Yoruba book of proverbs (Iwe owe Yoruba) on Saturday 25th February, including the promotion of one of Yoruba staple food Amala.
Amala and its varieties, accompanied with its various rich stews will be the only menu on the night.  Further details about the event shall be posted here.
